Health justice
Health inequalities are caused by a number of factors including poverty, education, housing, access to care, discrimination, social isolation and other things.
As a result, folk living in high income areas compared to those living in deprived areas could live for more than 10 years longer. Even more difficult to hear is that people living in more deprived areas are more likely to have bouts of chronic illness and suffer from poorer health.
What can we do?
- Advocate for inclusive services
- Volunteer for community health initiatives
- Support policies around equality
- Support the NHS in having a prevention focus
- Encourage a culture of compassion
- Pray for local areas that may be in decline or which face deprivation.
As a church, we are committed to being inclusive, and setting an example. This includes serving healthy food, advocating healthy lifestyles, and actively caring for and encouraging those who may suffer from inequality.
