There is hope
Have you ever felt condemned and useless, feeling like you’ve got it all wrong? “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.” Romans 8:1-2
On Sunday evening Tom taught us
this verse last night and reminded us that when the words “law” are
used we can substitute “control”. So, the control of the Spirit of life
has set us free from the control of sin and death! It is easy to get
frustrated with ourselves when we fail and don’t live up to God’s
standards, but God has provided the answer in Jesus.
Tim Fletcher carried on the theme of holiness and the fact that there is a passive and an active element to holiness. “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Ephesians 2:12-13.
When we believe in Jesus God makes us right with him and starts the process of transformation, he is working in us. Because we love him we choose to follow his ways and make a conscious decision to change ourselves.
Are
you on fire for God or lukewarm? Mark Elder challenged us as church to
decide where we are and follow Jesus’ command for us to be fully
committed to him. He is constantly, persistently and forever knocking
on our door. Will we let him in?
