Unwrap the presence

Posted by Sean Harris on 15 Dec 2005

Perhaps your Christmas plans are all set in stone: you've bought the turkey, invited auntie Ethel over for dinner, and finally got round to finding that dud bulb on the lights draped around your Christmas tree. But can I encourage you to add just one more thing to your Christmas plans?

I know from being a youth worker that there are many good excuses for not attending church, but how do some of those excuses bear up when applied to something else? Here is an example from a youth work resource called Hot Illustrations:

I don't eat anymore because....
1. I was forced to eat as a child
2. There are so many different kinds of food, I can't decide what to eat
3. I used to eat, but got bored and stopped
4. I only eat on special occassions
5. I'll start eating when I get older
6. None of my friends will eat with me
7. I don't really have the time to eat
8. Restaurants and food stores are only after your money!
9. People who eat are actually hypocrites, they are'nt really hungry
10. I don't beleive eating does anyone any good, it's a myth

What excuse do you have for not coming to church over Christmas? Why not consider attending just one of our church services, no terms and conditions apply. No one-off payments needed, and no need to contract with us. Church attendance for those who know Jesus is as important as regular, balanced meals (1 Peter 2:2). In the same way, our church services are there for you to come and feast on God's promises; they are an exciting opportunity in which to come and learn more about the true meaning of Christmas, and a God who has the most valuable gifts anybody could receive this season.

Come and discover what Christmas can really be about, come and join us as we unwrap more of God's presence in our lives. You are welcome through our doors anytime!
