What God prays for

Posted by Christine Jensen on 3 Apr 2010

So it's not that we don't know this stuff, but the way one of my professors explained it felt new to me, and was a real encouragement. I hope it will be to you. It's all about how God, by his Spirit, indwells every one of disciples.

What I hadn't thought of before was that in my deepest places, the ones where all my worries, fears, dreams, loves, desires, frustrations and pain live, in the core of me, the Spirit of God has made his home. There isn't anything that he doesn't know about what I truly feel, believe, or even want to think I believe (but don't really). He is in that place in me and is not shocked at what he finds cosying up against him!

What struck me though, was that in that place, what he does, is... he prays for me. With groans that don't have words, he intercedes on my behalf. In the knowledge of my reality, he pleads that I might become his fully fledged disciple of Christ. He was the midwife at my birth and he is the guardian of my soul. Constant in prayer for me, even as I sleep, cough, breathe the fresh spring air into my body, he is unrelenting in his love. In my doubts, in my fears, in my moments of relief, joy and euphoria, he is praying for my soul - and I wouldn't put it past him to be praying for the rest of me too! :o)

It made me realize how FOR us God is. How he is utterly abandoned to the recklessness of loving our frail selves. You are prayed for, not simply by the people who love you, but by God himself. The God who out of his deep reservoirs of love, is relentlessly praying for the you that you are, to be the you that he made you to be.
