God-shaped summer

Posted by Sean Harris on 29 Jul 2005

It's official... our youth activities have now stopped for the summer! Does this mean the youth worker gets to put his feet up? Will the youth team start sitting back and enjoying the sun whilst drinking smoothies and not caring about young people!? No!!! Never!!! In fact this summer couldn't be more God-shaped for our young people. Over the course of the summer holidays our young people are being encouraged to grab their suncream, shades and erm... Bibles... and join one of many exciting youth holidays being run across the region this summer.

I have my bags packed for a Scripture Union holiday in North Yorkshire that I'm supporting next week, and it looks to be a jam packed programme filled with seminars, sweet tunes, sunshine and serious encounters with God. Scripture Union runs many holidays for mixed ages and is always open to first timers. If you're a young person and don't want to get bored watching trashy daytime TV all summer, why not join up? For more info on SU holidays click here.

Summer holidays already booked with your great granny? Never mind, but perhaps you can manage to cram in a week under canvas meeting with Jesus in some seriously powerful ways. 'Harvest' is another holiday camp, this time run by Youth for Christ, that we will be taking a large group of young people on this year near County Durham. The camp offers great bands, heartfelt teaching and worship, late night entertainment, and a great opportunity to hang out with your pals and Jesus himself! Click here for more info.

Not a young person anymore? Don't get in a tangle about it. Why not consider volunteering on one of the holidays detailed above? For further information on any of the above please contact the agencies involved, or me through our church office.

With so many opportunities available to you, make sure that you spend your summer soaking up the Son - the one and only Jesus Christ.
