Day 13/14 (Sunday/Monday)
And finally…It’s always good to come home. And whilst the jet lag is always disorientating when you come west to east, it was made all the better when Virgin upgraded us. Good old Mr Branson. Wasn’t frisked at Chicago, but was at Heathrow!! Great to catch up with the boys and know that the sporting goodies fit (see yesterday’s blog). Our trip has left us with tons of memories and copious amounts of blessing. It’s probably too early to identify the overriding feelings. Plenty of time for that over the next few weeks. Meantime I’ll try and add to the few pictures I have on my facebook. Also, better ones on Christine Jensen’s. I do know Americans say ‘awesome’ a lot, meaning anything between above average to total ecstasy, and ‘bummer’ meaning slightly below average to total devastation. I also know they’re big on patriotism, loads of ‘em go to church, and their food portions (in eating places) are outrageous. The ones we met were kind, hospitable, gracious and accommodating. Even got 5 mins personal one-to-one with Bill Hybels yesterday. Felt chuffed with that given that, evidently, it’s easier to get an audience with the Pope. Came home to an email from the Willow Creek Assoc inviting Zoe for a quotable comment (for UK publicity), but not me. As you can imagine, Zoe thought this hilarious. Check out the WCA website soon for a pithy, deeply spiritual, quotable, quote.
Really enjoyed the discipline of writing the blog. Therapeutic for me to debrief and reflect. Hope those of you who’ve read it found you could connect with the 2 of us. Thanks to you all for your kindness, messages and prayers. You’re tops people.
“…you are God my saviour.” (Ps 25:5). Love this psalm, especially vv 4-6. David echo’s what’s in my heart, certainly in the sense that all his trust and hope is in the saving power of God. One of the things I love about Davidic psalms is the almost relentless sense of deep appreciation dependance and gratitude toward the goodness of our wonderful saviour. Not a bad sentiment to end on.
