Mark's Musings - Day 1 (Tuesday)
Okay, here we go. First day of our trip to the beautiful US of A. Journey fairly uneventful, apart from the fact that I defy anybody not to have a numb bum after 10 and a half hours on an airline seat, even one of Mr Branson’s. Actually Virgin has these really swanky V-pods in the back of the seat so you can watch or listen to any number of things. Got through an edition of Prime Suspect ( like Helen Mirren!!), plus 2 editions of the ‘Royle family’ – laughed out loud at one point much to the consternation of a woman sat opposite the aisle who obviously thought my lift didn’t go all the way to the top. Just to prove that I’m not backsliding, I also listened to 2 sermons on my MP3, but resisted the temptation to shout out ‘hallelujah’ a time or two, in case the aisle lady flipped.Forgotten how fussy customs are – had to pull my belt off 3 times! – though I enjoyed the craic with officer Dibble at the LA end. Then we were greeted by Christine, Sam and Eve Jensen – Phil had a Greek class (as you do) – and it was like a scene from ‘Brief Encounter’. Well we are near Hollywood. Chez Jensen is absolutely fab, and they’re all still lovely people, extremely loyal and devoted Jesus followers, and cracking hosts to boot. So, we’re here. Zoë is confused, not sure whether its sleep deprivation, a temperamental body clock, or a tired husband. No doubt a few zzz’s will do the trick. Speak to you tomorrow.
Little postscript: thought I’d leave a devotional thought for each day, so here goes with my first effort.
“He restores my soul” (Ps 23:3a). Four of the most sensational, transformative words in the whole book. Enough to feed on here for a whole holiday.
