Faith and flaws
The elders and deacons have been looking at their roles in greater detail and exploring how we can better serve the church with the skills, gifts and tools God has given each of us.
Before I did this I found it useful to look too at my character flaws. I can get stressed quite easily, I get angry with church politics and I can't stand people who seem to do nothing but moan at church leadership!
But, take a look at the following bunch of leaders, taken straight from the scriptures! And as you read it, be encouraged, like the deacons and elders have been, by the fact that God is more interested in our character than our competence. Be encouraged that God doesn't need the letters after your name and be willing to let him shape you into the great people he wants you to be. Like this bunch of odd-bods...
2. David’s armour didn’t fit.
3. John Mark was undependable.
4. Hosea married a prostitute.
5. Amos only had experience as a fig tree pruner.
6. Jacob was a liar.
7. David had an affair.
8. Solomon had too much money.
9. Abraham was too old.
10. Timothy had ulcers.
11. Joseph was a nuisance.
12. Paul was ugly.
13. Peter was a coward.
14. Lazarus was dead.
15. John was self-righteous.
16. Jesus was homeless.
17. Naomi was a widow.
18. Jonah was disobedient.
19. Miriam was a gossip.
20. Gideon and Thomas were doubters.
21. Jeremiah was suicidal.
22. Elijah suffered from depression.
23. Paul was a murderer.
24. So was Moses.
25. Not to mention David.
26. John the Baptist dressed funny.
27. Martha was a worrywart.
28. Samson needed a haircut.
29. Noah had a drinking problem.
30. Moses had a short fuse.
31. Zacchaeus was very short.
32. David was only a teenager.
33. So was Mary, the mother of Jesus.
34. So was Daniel.
