Grades, God and good news
Many sweaty palms will have been ripping open envelopes this week and next as thousands of young people obtain their AS and GCSE grades. Perhaps you got the grades you needed for university? Perhaps you wish that you should have listened to the folks when they told you to do 'more revision'?
On behalf of us all at HBC congratulations to those of you who have acheived excellent results. It is good news, however, to also remember that not even exams can get in the way of God's purposes and plans for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). On many occassions Jesus reminded his followers, including young people, that we should do our best not to worry about the things which we may class as important. He even went as far as saying we shouldn't worry about the things we will eat or what clothes to kit ourselves out in.
If we put Jesus first and the things he wants to be a priority in our lives then we can afford to put eveything else on the sidelines. This doesn't mean that exams should be treated with little care. It does mean that Jesus will give us the support we need in the run up to our exams and after them (whatever the grade!). This means that he welcomes clever dicks and losers alike. You can read more about it in Matthew 6:25-34.
Watch out later in the term for an event we will be
running for 15-19 year olds called 'One Way' in which we will be
looking at how to suss out God's plans and purposes for your life and
be giving out some practical pointers on decision making in life. More
details on this in the coming term.
