Slumdog millionaire
Ruth and I recently went to see the film Slumdog Millionaire which is creating a lot of noise in the media after receiving an Oscar for best picture. Initially we were put off seeing it with stories of violence, poverty, and sexual exploitation. Were we somehow implicitly guilty in going to the cinema to see this for entertainment and then return to our safe, warm house? Were we just voyeurs, looking over to India, and seeing something awful and turning away?

How easy is it for you to get water?
This morning I got up, went to the loo, closed my eyes and went back to bed. Then I went downstairs, filled the kettle, and made myself a cup of tea. I washed up with nice soapy water, in a clean sink. Then I brushed my teeth, washed my face and put my contact lenses in. All without thinking...
