Activities

ActivitiesAs well as two Sunday worship services, we have a Junior Church of around 75 children that takes place during the second half of the morning service. We have a large creche too.

Weekday activities include small 'lifegroups' - most are mixed age, but some have specific focuses, such as young families and students - a mum's bible study group and a monthly 'Meeting Point' group for older people.

We see prayer as a priority for underpinning all we do and provide a variety of opportunities for the church to pray. The church seeks to impact and serve the local communities in a number of ways, such as English speaking classes for asylum seekers and overseas students, two toddler groups (one, Hiz Kidz, for dads), a Heaton Helps project run in partnership with social services to provide the elderly with practical help, regular social events - barbeques, cabaret evenings, pub quizzes - to help us reach friends, family and neighbours, and meals for international students.

The church runs Alpha courses twice a year and has been successful in seeing people come to faith. We have had a significant ministry to students over the years and have a team that seeks to welcome and integrate students into the life of the church.

The church has a vibrant worship team of musicians who lead Sunday worship, and we have a well-established preaching team within the fellowship.

Representatives from HBC meet with the other churches in the Heaton area on a regular basis - we have given strong support to the 'Together in Christ' group of evangelical churches in the city and we actively support the Tyneside Prayer network that prays for the city. The church is a member of the Evangelical Alliance and we join with other baptist churches in the north east through the Northern Baptist Association.

We are committed to world mission. HBC supports an 'away team' of church members working in Israel, China, Albania and in the UK. We seek to support those called by God to this work during their training and subsequent service.
